What is a Psychosocial Disability?

“Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe a disability that may arise from a mental health issue.” (NDIS)

What is a Psychosocial Recovery Coach?

A Psychosocial Recovery coach is an NDIS service created to support individuals with a psychosocial disability to take more control of their lives and to better manage the complex challenges of day-to-day living.

A Psychosocial Recovery Coach provides assistance for participants to build capacity and resilience through strong and respectful relationships in order to support people with psychosocial disability to live a full and contributing life. This support is designed to be able to maintain engagement through periods of increased support needs, due to the episodic nature of the mental illness. Recovery coaches work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, and other services to identify, plan, design, and coordinate NDIS supports.

How is it different to a Support Co-ordinator?

A Support Co-ordinator’s main focus is capacity building and working with an individual to get the most out of their NDIS plan.

A Psychosocial Recovery Coach is specifically designed for individuals who have a primary diagnosis of psychosocial disability/mental illness. Recovery coaches offer a more hands-on approach, using our specific knowledge of mental health services, to ensure individuals receive the best support to reach their goals.
